Korea Uncovered is an eight-day introduction to the country's essential destinations: Seoul, Gyeongju and Busan. In Seoul, visit Gyeongbokgung Palace and witness the Changing of the Guard Ceremony, wander Insadong's tea houses and Bukchon Hanok Village, then spend a full day at the Demilitarized Zone, exploring Freedom Bridge, an infiltration tunnel and the Dora Observatory along the tense border with North Korea. Travel by KTX to Gyeongju, the ancient capital of the Silla Kingdom, for the UNESCO sites of Seokguram Grotto and Bulguksa Temple, a hike on Namsan Mountain among more than 100 temples, and a rice wine brewing workshop at a 500-year-old hanok in Yangdong Folk Village. Finish in Busan with Gukje Market's wartime history, a hands-on bibimbap cooking class, the colourful hillside lanes of Gamcheon Culture Village, and panoramic coastal views from X the Sky.

The route in detail
Day 1
Arrival in Seoul
Arrive at Incheon International Airport for a private transfer into Seoul. The rest of the day is at leisure. Guests can opt for an evening pedicab tour through Seochon's alleyways at sunset, gliding past hanok houses and the historic Tongin Market. Overnight in Seoul.
Day 2
Seoul by Public Transportation
Meet the guide to begin the day at Gwanghwamun Square, home to the statues of King Sejong, creator of the Korean alphabet, and Admiral Yi Sun-sin, a national hero. Continue through Gwanghwamun Gate, the entrance to Gyeongbokgung Palace, timed if possible to witness the Changing of the Guard Ceremony, a centuries-old tradition performed at 10:00 or 14:00. Explore Gyeongbokgung Palace, the largest of Seoul's five grand palaces, with time to visit the neighbouring National Folk Museum. Continue to Insadong, known for traditional crafts, tea houses and art galleries, for lunch, then visit Jogyesa Temple, the main temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. Finish the day at Bukchon Hanok Village, wandering its lanes of traditional Korean houses. Overnight in Seoul.
Day 3
Seoul's Demilitarized Zone
Meet a DMZ specialist guide for a join-in bus tour to the Korean Demilitarized Zone, the historic border between North and South Korea. Explore the border area's sites and exhibitions, including Freedom Bridge, the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, Imjingak Park and the Dora Observatory. A passport is required for entry. Return to Seoul, dropped at City Hall, with the rest of the day free to relax or explore independently. Guests can opt for a hands-on Taekwondo session with a certified black belt master, an evening market tour through Dongmyo Flea Market, Gwangjang Market and Myeongdong Night Market with dinner and soju, or a 90-minute aromatic body therapy session. Overnight in Seoul.
Day 4
Seoul to Gyeongju
After breakfast, check out and board the KTX high-speed train to Gyeongju, once the capital of the 8th-century Silla Kingdom and a UNESCO World Heritage Site revered as an open-air museum. Upon arrival, meet the guide for a transfer to Seokguram Grotto and Bulguksa Temple, admiring the Buddhist carvings and stone terraces built during the Silla Kingdom. Continue to Gyeongju National Museum, home to a vast collection of Silla-era artefacts and royal treasures, then Daereungwon, or Tumuli Park, home to more than 20 Silla-period tombs, including the Cheonmachong Tomb, a typical upper-class Silla burial chamber. Guests wishing to explore further at leisure can take an independent evening walk to Woljeong Bridge, a historic gateway that once connected Silla's royal palaces, and Wolji Pond, part of the ancient palace complex. Overnight in Gyeongju.
Day 5
Gyeongju's Mountain and Village
Meet the guide for a morning excursion to Namsan Mountain, home to over 100 temples, 80 stone Buddha statues and 60 stone pagodas. The hike follows a well-maintained trail over around three hours, with short breaks to admire cultural relics and scenic views, followed by lunch at a local restaurant featuring regional specialties. In the afternoon, travel along the Hyeongsan River to Yangdong Folk Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site preserving Korea's Joseon-era heritage with traditional tiled and thatched houses. Arrive at Manho Gotaek, a 500-year-old hanok renowned for its traditional drink-making culture, and take part in a Cheongju, or Korean rice wine, brewing workshop under the guidance of local masters, learning the process of fermenting, filtering and ageing the rice wine before tasting freshly made Cheongju and artisanal soju paired with local bites. Overnight in Gyeongju.
Day 6
Gyeongju to Busan
Meet the guide and transfer to Busan, South Korea's vibrant second-largest city, nestled between mountains and sea. Begin at the Modern History Museum for an overview of the city's turbulent past, then Gukje Market, Busan's largest and most historically significant marketplace, a major hub for refugees during and after the Korean War. Enjoy a bowl of gukbap, a Busan specialty, then continue to BIFF Street, named for the Busan International Film Festival, and Jagalchi Market, the country's largest seafood market. In the afternoon, explore Gamcheon Culture Village, a hillside community revitalised by the Village Art Project into a neighbourhood of colourful homes and galleries, before finishing at Haeundae Beach and X the Sky, an observation deck atop Haeundae's tallest skyscraper offering panoramic coastal views. Overnight in Busan.
Day 7
Busan
Meet the guide for a join-in cooking class, learning to make bibimbap, one of Korea's most popular dishes, under an instructor's guidance before sitting down to enjoy the freshly prepared dish for lunch, with a recipe card to take home. Continue to Beomeosa Temple, one of Busan's most important Buddhist sites, nestled on the slopes of Geumjeongsan Mountain, then Ahopsan Bamboo Forest, a tranquil grove of towering bamboo preserved for over 400 years, for a leisurely walk along its shaded trails. Overnight in Busan.
Day 8
Departure from Busan
After breakfast, transfer to the KTX station for the return journey to Seoul. Upon arrival, transfer to the airport for the onward departure flight.
