Vietnam is one of those countries that gets under your skin in a way that is difficult to explain until you have been. The food alone would justify the journey, but it is the combination of landscapes, history, and the warmth of the people that keeps travellers coming back, often to different parts of the country each time.
Most trips follow the country from north to south, and there is good reason for that. The character shifts noticeably as you travel. The French colonial architecture and street food culture of Hanoi, the ancient trading port of Hoi An, the imperial history of Hue, the beaches and delta in the south. Each region has enough depth to fill a trip on its own.
