Escape the city on an e-bike ride from West Lake, crossing the Red River to the quieter countryside beyond. Visit Co Loa, Vietnam's first capital dating to the third century BC, taking in An Duong Vuong Temple, the Ngu Trieu Di Quy communal house, a 280-year-old communal house and a 400-year-old ancestral house. Return via the historic Long Bien Bridge, completed in 1902, with a stop at Banana Island, a pocket of quiet farmland in the middle of the city. Transfer around 40 minutes to Noi Bai Airport for a scenic 60-minute seaplane flight to Halong Bay, then board your private cruise for two nights on Bai Tu Long Bay, part of an ASEAN Heritage Park and home to traditional floating fishing villages, considerably quieter than Halong Bay itself. Cruise past dramatic limestone formations over lunch, then spend the afternoon kayaking beneath towering cliffs before the boat anchors for the night. Visit a secret underground bunker inside a century-old building to learn about its role during the Vietnam War, then continue to Reunification Palace, its war rooms and basement preserved as they were. Stroll through 30 April Park to the Central Post Office, past the former CIA building, site of one of the last helicopter evacuations in 1975, before taking in City Hall, Dong Khoi Street, the Continental Hotel and the Saigon Opera House. Step into a heritage building reimagined by the city's creative generation for a coffee, then finish at Ben Thanh Market. In the evening, hop on the back of a Vespa for a food-driven ride through the city: a queue-worthy banh mi stall, a characterful coffee shop, a hidden restaurant for a home-cooked tasting meal, a night market inside a converted apartment block, a local dessert stop, and a final cocktail at a hidden bar before the ride back to your hotel. Transfer to the airport for a one-hour flight to Nha Trang, Vietnam's beach capital, then continue by road and boat to a secluded resort at Ninh Van Bay, reachable only by water.
