The route in detail
Day 1
Arrival in Bali & Jimbaran
Om Swastiastu, welcome to Bali. After landing at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, your local guide will greet you for the transfer to Jimbaran. Relax by the pool until meeting your guide again for a briefing on the adventure ahead. Dinner at a local restaurant this evening. Overnight in Jimbaran.
Day 2
Uluwatu Beach & Temple (Optional Tour Available)
Start the day at one of the stunning beaches of southern Bali, with white sand and great waves, or opt for rock climbing in the Uluwatu area instead (advance booking required, arrange with your guide on arrival). Lunch is served at a local restaurant near the beach before returning to freshen up. In the late afternoon, visit Uluwatu Temple, one of Bali's most impressive temples, perched dramatically on a clifftop above the Indian Ocean, and watch the traditional kecak dance at sunset, performed to nothing but the chant of its male performers. Return to Jimbaran for a BBQ seafood dinner on the beach under the stars. Overnight in Jimbaran.
Day 3
Cycling to Jatiluwih & Batukaru
After breakfast, cycle through lush forest past the village of Angseri to the UNESCO-recognised rice terraces of Jatiluwih, widely considered Bali's most beautiful man-made landscape. Take time to explore and photograph the verdant surroundings before lunch at a local restaurant. Continue cycling up to Batukaru Temple on the slopes of Batukaru Volcano, one of Bali's largest Hindu temples, set on a plateau surrounded by lush rainforest. After visiting, continue to the day's resting point, with the rest of the evening at leisure. Overnight in Batukaru.
Day 4
Cycling, Trekking & Canoeing to Munduk
Depart by vehicle to the Bedugul area for a scenic and challenging ride up to Lake Bratan, passing strawberry plantations and stopping at Bedugul Market en route. Visit Ulun Danu Temple, set on a small island so it appears to float on the lake's calm waters, then ride to a viewpoint over the Twin Lakes of Tamblingan and Buyan. Set off on a two-hour trek deep through the jungles around Tamblingan, discovering lush vegetation and hidden temples, ending at Dalem Temple, the starting point for a canoe crossing of misty Tamblingan Lake. After reaching the other side, continue riding to lunch at a local restaurant, then on to the day's resting point in Munduk, with the rest of the afternoon at leisure. Overnight in Munduk.
Day 5
Canyoning at Gitgit to Kintamani
Transfer early to Gitgit for an exhilarating descent through Kerenkali, an extension of Kalimudan Canyon, with a series of jumps, slides and short rappels across volcanic gorges and an underground water basin. The second stage rappels alongside a 26-metre waterfall, with optional jumps of up to 10 metres into the pools below. A picnic lunch is included. After freshening up, enjoy an afternoon ride along Bali's northern coast, passing Singaraja town and the famous Beji Temple, then continuing along small mountain roads through remote villages to Kintamani, on the slopes of Batur Volcano. Dinner at the lodge. Overnight in Kintamani.
Day 6
Mount Batur Sunrise Trek to Sidemen
Depart very early, around 04:00, for the start point of the Mount Batur trek. After a safety briefing, climb through jungle and up a rocky volcanic path to the main crater rim, reaching the top around sunrise at 1,717 metres, with views over Mount Abang and Mount Agung and, on clear days, Lombok's Mount Rinjani across the strait. Enjoy a simple breakfast with hot coffee or tea while taking in the view. Descend along a steep path to the west slope of Batur, passing craters formed in the 1999 and 2001 eruptions, with their smoking cones and lava fields, before crossing a sea of black lava sand to the trek's end. Bathe in a hot spring near Batur Lake before a late lunch, then transfer through the countryside to the quiet village of Sidemen, near Agung Volcano, for the rest of the afternoon at leisure. Overnight in Sidemen.
Day 7
Telaga Waja Whitewater Rafting
Transfer early to the start point of the day's whitewater rafting adventure on the wild Telaga Waja River. After a safety briefing and paddling demonstration, cover 14 kilometres of the river over roughly two hours, split into two stages with a rest stop at the halfway point, through gorges, waterfalls and lush farmland. Afterwards, enjoy a buffet of Indonesian specialities at a restaurant with river and hillside views. Return to the hotel for an afternoon at leisure, with dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Sidemen.
Day 8
Besakih Temple & Mount Agung Summit Camp
Enjoy a leisurely morning at the hotel, with lunch served before setting out for Besakih, Bali's 'Mother Temple' and most holy site, set on the western slopes of Mount Agung. From there, begin trekking up Mount Agung, Bali's most sacred volcano at 3,142 metres above sea level, along an incredibly scenic path for around four hours to reach camp for the night. Enjoy a spectacular sunset from the roof of Bali as your guiding team prepares a well-earned camp dinner. Overnight camping on Mount Agung.
Day 9
Mount Agung Sunrise Summit to Amed
Wake early for a two-hour trek to the summit of Mount Agung in time for a glorious sunrise, with a 360-degree view over Bali, Mount Batur, Mount Abang and the surrounding islands, including Mount Rinjani on Lombok on clear days. Descend back down the volcano, a journey of around six hours, on what is considered the most challenging volcanic climb in Bali. After reaching the base, transfer to a local restaurant for a well-earned lunch, then continue to the seaside village of Amed for the rest of the day at leisure. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Amed.
Day 10
Amed Snorkelling
After a leisurely breakfast, board a traditional motorised Perahu boat for a snorkelling trip off the coast of Amed, exploring calm, clear waters and vibrant marine life over some of Bali's best coral reefs. Spend the afternoon relaxing on Amed's beaches, resting adventure-worn muscles. Overnight in Amed.
Day 11
